The EcoCraft Skills project began with a shared ambition to strengthen sustainable thinking and practice across the creative and craft sectors. Bringing together partners from four European countries, the project was formed around a simple but significant idea: to make ecological knowledge accessible, practical and relevant for designers, makers and vocational learners.

From the outset, the partnership focused on creating resources that would bridge the gap between environmental awareness and everyday creative work. This required a blend of expertise, ranging from sustainable design and education to craft practice, digital production and visual communication. By combining these perspectives, the consortium established a foundation for a training model that is both comprehensive and adaptable.

The project’s early stages centred on defining the structure of the EcoCraft training program, shaping its content and determining the most effective ways to present it to a diverse audience. Partners worked collaboratively to identify the essential skills and approaches that would support a more responsible creative sector. These discussions also informed the development of complementary tools, such as the guidebook, the video series and the Learning Center.

Throughout this phase, the project aimed not only to produce educational materials but also to promote a shared understanding of sustainability within the creative industries. The partners emphasised practical action, real-world application and open access, ensuring that the resources would be suitable for a wide community of learners, educators and professionals.

The start of EcoCraft Skills marked the beginning of a collaborative effort to support meaningful change. With a clear vision and a committed partnership, the project set out to equip creative practitioners with the knowledge and tools needed to work more sustainably and to inspire long-term transformation within the sector.
